[Ta Kung Pao]

The world of television has been rather lively lately, on the one hand there are plenty of artistes returning to the arms of TVB such as Patrick Tam, Michael Tao and Kiki Sheung as well as earlier returners such as Nick Cheung and Francis Ng. As soon as they return they are landed with work creating much news and feedback.

On the other hand, TVB has been actively nurturing its newcomers in shows such as "Dong Sei Yip Cho Pung Seung Gim Jim See" (Fencing Hearts) that is obviously a test for the new actors to see who can break out from the eleven newcomers showcased. Also there are the high profile newcomers such as Bosco Wong, Ron Ng and Lee Tin Cheung as well as the "Lut Ching San Yan Wong" (Survivor's Law) stars such as Sammul Chan, Myolie Wu and Bernice Liu who have all had good reviews.

With this change, this has broken the outlook on what was becoming too predictable for viewers in terms of the same old faces and with some long unseen familiar faces as well as some brand new fresh faces, this has been a welcomed refreshment for the audience. Moreover with the television experience that the returning players have behind them, they are all skilled artistes and this is recognised by the viewers. With their leaving and returning, let's see what results they can now achieve.

Actually, no matter if they are old or new, they will still face the same pressures and in comparison, the expectation may not be as high from the newcomers, especially when it comes to legacies. However in the view of the audience, the established artistes will have a more comfortable feeling. No matter what, all the viewers want is a good show and the most important thing is that it is enjoyable and able to provoke acceptance and response. The script is important, the focus and acting ability of the actor can make an even bigger impact. Actually no matter what if the script twists and turns or is not right, a premium artiste can use their superior skills to make an attraction from the script and this is why some of the repeated series can still draw an audience to become enthralled and watch it again religiously.

Also it cannot be forgotten that the 'green leaves' of the shows such as Lo Hoi Pang, Liu Kai Chi, Cheung Chi Kwong, Lau Chung Yan, Mary Hon and Kwok Fung are just as important and they bring plenty of drama. In comparison, Maggie Siu is still looking for a breakthrough!
